Dr Alkhani participated in the RTPI National Planning Conference in Birmingham on the 9th of November.
The first day's keynote speeches and panels emphasised the importance of the housing question in the UK and community engagement as central to the planners' activity. Chief Executive Victoria Hills emphasised the importance of the planners' role, particularly with current challenges facing cities, including the lack of affordable housing and climate challenges. Minister of State at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Rachel Maclean, stressed that housing should be core to policy and that renewing the National Planning Policy Framework should go hand in hand with enabling housing.
We look forward to seeing and being part of how the government and planners will continue addressing these critical issues, especially with the urgent need to solve homelessness.
